The CrossFit Open is 3 weeks Away and Why You Should Sign Up!

The CrossFit Open is a few weeks away and after last year, I am even more excited. I know some have no clue what the Open is, heck some have only been at CFD a couple weeks. So let me tell you what the Open is and why you should sign up and be a part of the largest event that CrossFit does.
The CrossFit Open is an event that goes on for 5 week starting Thursday, February 22nd. There is a live announcement that happens every Thursday night for the 5 weeks where CrossFit streams from a different location every week. Last year Josh Fink, a long time Open enthusiast and CFD athlete got a chance to perform at one of the announcements on the live stream. It was real cool to see, we all gathered around the gym to watch. Sorry for the detour, now back to the Open. The workouts that are announced are done at every single CrossFit Gym from CFD to CrossFit China if there is one. We perform the workouts all of Friday, and then you enter your scores and can actually see where you rank in the World, Region, and State for you age level.
There are 2 divisions but multiple age brackets. You can now compete as an RX athlete or a Scaled athlete. Which to me made it even more fun and last year at CFD we had over 50 people sign up of all ages. I would love to see us get the whole gym signed up.
So why should you do the Open??
1: The Open every single year brings out the very best in you. I have been doing this since 2011 and I can truly say without a doubt that everyone who has done it has become better from it. It has a way of pushing you just enough to realize that you can handle and do more than you ever thought you could do. I have seen so many firsts during the Open that I can’t even count. (For me, my first year was my first kipping pull-up).
2: You get to truly test your fitness from what you have been doing all year. Now, I realize that some of you haven’t been around for a year or maybe don’t get in the gym as much as you would like, so this might not exactly sound that great, but look at it like this, it shows you what you may want to work harder on for 2018. The Open has a way of putting a new focus into your healthy lifestyle. (For me this year, it was to have a full year of healthy training which I am proud to announce I am pretty much there. My back has been doing great and I am fired up to push hard this year. I would love it for you all to do it with me).
3: People in general do better and perform better in Tribes. Well, you all are in a Tribe now, its called CrossFit Dexter. You will never be alone here. And putting yourself in this you will feel what I am talking about. I love this Tribe and love seeing you all get better every day. During the Open, the Tribe comes together for one heck of a time. It is not the same as your everyday class. It is so much more than that and you need to be a part of it to understand what I am talking about.
4: We took the Open a step further last year. We did a little in house team challenge called the Intramural Open. We had 4 captains recruiting members for their teams and had a great time because of it. This year we have some cool stuff planned so stay tuned and be prepared. A captain is coming for you to get you on their team.  Of everything that went on in 2017, I would say this was the most fun of the year.
5: It forces you to get comfortable being uncomfortable. You will be pushed to try your best and at times feel like you can’t do something and then all of a sudden because you tell yourself screw it and give it a go the Magic happens and you do what you never thought you couldn’t.
6: For those of you that are still nervous as all get out. All I can say is don’t be. Join in on the fun, scale us much as you need to because in the end of the day all that matters is that you give it your best and have fun. Your workouts will count no matter what for your team regardless of how you scale. You will still be a huge part of all the fun.
7: Finally, it is just 20.00 and something awesome to experience. I promise that you will have fun and will do things you never thought you would be able to do.
