Meet a Member Monday……

Meet Kara Carter…she started CrossFit in January of 2016.  Cynthia Dorow (CFD’s JOY Girl) recruited Kara to be her workout “wing woman” and she became hooked!  Kara remembers her first workout at CFD going a little like this: “There were so many lunges that I couldn’t walk for a week, let alone sit down or take the stairs…and wall balls – I think I did about 5 (with a 4# ball!) before I spent the rest of the workout stretching out my legs.”  It’s so easy to give up when it seems impossible but giving up isn’t in part of who Kara is.

Her favorite movements are: pull-ups, jump ropes and burpees  Interestingly enough, she thinks these are the movements she needs the most improvement on – which in most scenarios, athletes usually dislike the movements they need the most improvement on.  I think we could learn something from the way Kara views this 🙂

Growing and getting stronger everyday, Kara has already signed up for her first CrossFit Competition {The Rookie Rumble} in April 2017.  Her advice for new members at CFD: “Try not to compare yourself to others in the gym. We are all taking a different step in our journey.  Never hesitate to ask a question.  Our coaches are the best for a reason…they’re here to help us succeed.”  

What keeps Kara coming back to CrossFit Dexter?  “The feeling I get after a workout.  Every small step is so rewarding – one more pound on a lift or inch on a box can do wonders for your confidence and strength.  That feeling motivates me to strive for the next small improvement.  The community is pretty great and supportive too!”

Kara, thank you for believing in CrossFit Dexter but more importantly, for believing in yourself!  Seeing how far you have come in just a year is truly an inspiration to all of us!  Good luck at the Rookie Rumble –  you are going to crush it!!
